What do we do?

We offer a range of services, but they are all underpinned by our objective of fostering academic and small-to-medium technology business engagement with defence research. The rapidly changing tactics and technologies employed by the UK’s adversaries means that the MoD is actively looking to employ a wide diversity of solutions, which requires a broad and flexible range of underlying Research and Development.

Firstly, Stellar Research Services prides itself on being up to date with the current defence research requirements, and on the areas of expertise which are ‘sought after’. We specialise in putting together unique, bespoke consortia which deliver truly world-class, innovative and relevant research. These consortia are assembled in response to specific funding opportunities and we always start with reference to our Research Expertise and Technology Directory. Secondly, we recognise that our academic and SME partners often do not have the time or resources required to produce high-quality, effective, but speculative research proposals. Similarly, once a proposal has been accepted and the project is underway, our Academic and SME partners are usually keen to spend their time on actually doing the work – which is what they do best – as opposed to project managing both the technical and commercial process. Hence, Stellar Research Services takes the lead on writing the actual proposal, with just seminal input from our partners. There is no charge for this service since we only take on projects which we believe have a high chance of success. We act as the Prime Contractor and will negotiate Terms & Conditions with the MoD, so that the contracting process becomes as simple as possible. Once the proposal has been accepted, we act as Programme Manager and take the lead on all reporting, with enough input from our partners to demonstrate that the project is being delivered as per the proposal. In short, Stellar Research Services will relieve our partners of as much of the administrative burden as possible, so that our partners can concentrate on delivering high-quality, value-for-money research.
